Meet Kim Bultsma: The Coffee-Loving Countess of Content Joins the 316 Strategy Group Leadership team.

If there’s one thing to know about Kim Bultsma, it’s that she likes coffee. She is also known for her mad skills in all things content–from live streaming to organic SEO content to podcasting to website development to teaching about all sorts of content creation. And all of those things started with a quirky obsession with words.

What to do with an English degree

“If I had a dollar for every time someone asked me what I was going to do with an English degree…” Kim’s undergrad was in English and secondary education from South Dakota State University, with minors in Linguistics and German. In the middle of a 10-year teaching stint, she earned her Master’s in English, with an emphasis on Creative Writing and Technical Writing. It was there that became adept at information design and website development, and obsessed with how to craft binge-worthy content.

While she still loves teaching, she realized that her skills would be better utilized outside the traditional classroom.

Inspired by Joseph Campbell, powered by Donald Miller

When Kim taught high school Mythology, she loved applying Joseph Campbell’s A Hero with a Thousand Faces to the likes of Star Wars. It was this thing about knowing who the hero is, how they never do things alone, how they need guides to elevate them to a higher hero status…it makes Kim’s mind spin.

Enter Donald Miller and StoryBrand. Kim isn’t afraid to tell you that Donald Miller stole the idea for StoryBrand from Joseph Campbell. She’s more frustrated that she didn’t come up with it herself.

Kim’s deep knowledge of Campbell’s theory helps her apply Miller’s StoryBrand techniques to content on all levels–blogging, social media, website development…the list goes on. If you’ve seen her be giddy with excitement at all levels of awesomeness that you can apply these concepts to any business–you’ve met the real Kim.

Putting the “ultra” in content…and running

Fact: Kim has completed a handful of 50K or “ultra” running events. That’s why Kim will be the first to explain to clients that content is not a sprint. It’s not even a marathon! If you want to grow your business’s online presence–really grow it–you have to accept that it’s more than a marathon. It’s an ultra–that 50K, 100K, 100-mile kind of run. She knows–she’s run plenty of ultras herself to see what all goes into crossing the finish line. And Kim puts that same mentality into our clients’ strategies. It’s long-term planning. It’s the day-to-day social media. It’s consistent blogging. It’s a story-branded website. If your business’s training plan isn’t well crafted with multiple pieces at play at any given time, you might not cross that finish line.

And we’re going to cross that finish line.
