Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium – This award-winning zoological garden boasts 130 acres of animal habitats and is consistently rated among the top five zoos in the world. Here you’ll find more than 900 different species of animals and 30,000 different species of reptiles, birds, and amphibians. In fact, you can learn about more than 3,000 animal species here, and you’ll never want to leave!
Zoo and Aquarium – There are plenty of ways to spend your time at the Suzanne and Walter Scott Aquarium. The aquarium offers unique exhibits and backstage experiences. Explore the Lied Jungle, the Dome Desert, or the Kingdoms of the Night, where you’ll find many creatures of the dark. At the Suzanne and Walter Scott Aquarium, visit the 70-foot long shark tunnel and experience the re-creation of a port town in Alaska.
African Grasslands – Completed in 2016, the Suzanne and Walter Scott African Grasslands project is the largest construction project in the zoo’s history. The project was completed in phases, with the first phase focusing on habitats for the African grasslands’ animals. The second phase of construction will include game management headquarters. Aside from the zoo’s main building, the aquarium will also have several exhibits relating to African wildlife.
Joslyn Museum – The Joslyn Museum was built in the late 1920s and opened in 1931. Sarah Joslyn donated the museum to the city to commemorate her husband George Joslyn. The Joslyn Museum features an impressive collection of Greek pottery and 18th century art. There’s also a sculpture garden and decorative panels made from 38 different marble types. Moreover, the Joslyn Museum is one of Nebraska’s largest art museums.
Children’s Museum – This children’s museum offers a hands-on learning experience in a relaxing and beautiful setting. There are indoor and outdoor exhibits, focusing on a variety of topics, including art, science, and nature. The museum also features an interactive fountain area called Sandy’s Splish Splash Garden, where children can cool off in the summer. There’s also an “Imagination Playground” to stimulate the creativity of little ones.
